Swedish, which is being spoken by 9 million people, is one of the major languages of the European continent. The language, which is a part of the Indo-European language family, has similarities with the Norwegian, Danish and Icelandic languages, and even German and Dutch.

The first serious relations between Turks and Swedes Date back to the 17th century. The Swedish Emperor Charles (Karl, XII.) who was defeated by Russia and has been kept as a  refugee in the Ottoman Empire, ruled his country for 5 years under the captivity of the Ottoman Empire and returned to his own country at the end of the process. As a consequence, friendly relationships started between the Turks and the Swedes and firstly in 1737 the Trade Agreement and then in 1739 the Peace, Unity and Friendship Alliance were signed between the two countries and this relationship was solidified. The partnership Treaty, signed in 1924 after the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, has been active until today without interruption.

Turkey and Sweden, by laying the foundations of coexistence called Economy and Trade Joint Committee in 10 August 2014, paved the way for an important development for the further development of trade between the two countries.
