My dream job: The translator
Was being translator something that you always desired?
WHY THE PROFESSION: TRANSLATOR?
When people choose their professions, they always look unwittingly backwards. Where they look, there is first time of their education life. There, they lay the foundations of the jobs they wanted to perform in the future, but at that time they also feel indecisive with the child's mind... In fact, we met with the profession of translatorship with the first foreign language course of our education life and most of us didn't know that at that time. Our interest in language directed us to this business and we had the opportunity to improve ourselves in this field.
TRANSLATOR CONNECTS SOCIETIES WITH EACH OTHER
As translators, our most important task is to interconnect societies in an inter-cultural way beyond translation. We are the ones who make people that speak two different languages understand and work with each other. This, of course, does not mean that we are the master of the world. However, without us, the world would turn slower. For example, let's say that a website, which maintains its existence in the international arena, desires to have a web-presence in our country. The first thing they will do is to have their original website translated into the local language and have the localization process performed. If the company ignores it and moves on to other steps, , it will be a story that has to fail, even ends before it starts, unfortunately.
Academic Education is Important
Having knowledge of the language does not solve every matter. If you desire to be a good translator, you need to know the details of the language, get to know its culture and internalize the habits of the society. The first stage of this is the academic education. There are many people who have lived abroad for a few years, saying that they know the language, and attempt to translate or interpret. The point where these people are wrong is that translatorship or interpreting must not only have a linguistic but also a cultural meaning. The first instance where you can learn these features is the university and the second one is the expertise you will gain on the market to improve yourself on the profession.
LET'S NOT MIX CONCEPTS
Generally, the interpreter and the translator are regarded as the same person, but they are mistaken as their work is the same. The translator works on and translates written texts. And the interpreter performs consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, two main branches of oral communication, and is in direct contact with customers. Let's never confuse with these two concepts. After a while, when we demand an translator, we may find an interpreter and this may cause our business to interrupt. First of all we call communication and we learn two main concepts.
